Fracking protest in Preston

This week Lancashire County Council are debating a planning application to allow exploratory drilling as the first step towards full scale fracking.

The council officers have been accused of bias in their advice to the councillors and as we listened to the debate being relayed by PA to the demonstration outside the council offices I heard a councillor claim that fracking would not affect tourism. How can democracy have sunk so low and how can any councillor deciding on whether to litter the countryside with fracking wells, huge volumes of lorry movement and to inject poison into the Earth think that the land will be just as attractive to visit.

There were a couple of hundred of us outside the council offices today and I gather that there were 700 for the start of the debate.

Great to see so many Green Party friends there too, including Natalie Bennett.
